Indian boxer Manju Rani had to be content with the silver medal after the women's World Championship final loss. The Haryana boxer was defeated 4–1 by Ekaterina Palceva of Russia in the light flyweight (48 kg) category final.
Rani, who is going to be 20 years old on Saturday, was the only Indian in the final.“ Manju has claimed the biggest medal of her career.”
Earlier, six-time champions MC Mary Kom (51 kg),Jamuna Boro (54 kg) and Lovlina Borgohain(69 kg) had to be content with the bronze medal. This was Borgohain's second consecutive bronze medal.
Rani made it to the national camp by winning the national title for Punjab this year. He won a silver medal playing the Stranza Memorial tournament for the first time this year.
Rani's father was an officer in the Border Security Force who died in 2010 due to cancer.
